CHBC Publishes 2017 Hydrogen and Fuel Cells in the Ports Briefing Report, Announces Webinar

January 22, 2018, Yorba Linda, Calif. – The California Hydrogen Business Council (CHBC) has published its Hydrogen and Fuel Cells in the Ports Briefing Report, presenting the conclusions of its December 6, 2017 Briefing held at Bannings Landing in Wilmington, California.

“The CHBC recognized the growing need to inform port authorities and terminal operators in California about the capabilities of hydrogen and fuel cell technologies,” said Cory Shumaker, CHBC Development Specialist. “To drastically reduce emissions in the ports, adoption of zero-emission technologies will be critical. We think hydrogen fuel cells offer the best solution because they can perform in high duty demand cycles, over long periods, and refuel in minutes.”

Since the CHBC’s initial Hydrogen and Fuel Cells in the Ports Workshop in 2016, there has been a significant increase in interest and adoption of hydrogen and fuel cell technologies for port and maritime applications. The 2017 Ports Briefing provided a forum for the hydrogen and fuel cell industry to discuss the needs of port authorities and terminal operators as they transition away from diesel to cleaner, zero-emission fuel options under the Clean Air Action Plan, adopted in 2017 by the Ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles, and more broadly the California Sustainable Freight Action Plan. The 2017 Ports Briefing was a follow-up to the CHBC’s October 3, 2017 Hydrogen and Fuel Cells in the Ports Workshop held at the California Maritime Academy in Vallejo, California. A report presenting the conclusions of that Workshop was published in November 2017 and can be accessed here >>
