Oil Embargo 40th Anniversary Coincides with Spotlight on Alternatives at Summit
Focus on zero-emission transportation and power at Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Summit October 9-10, in Sacramento, CA
October 3, 2013 – Los Angeles, CA – The California Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Summit will cover the advances and opportunities of hydrogen and fuel cell technology for transportation, energy storage, back-up power, goods movement, and stationary power. Hosted at the California Environmental Protection Agency in Sacramento, CA the California Hydrogen Business Council (CHBC) has organized this Summit just days before the 40th anniversary of the 1973 Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) oil embargo.
“The amount of oil consumed in the U.S. has changed very little, but rather than 50% in 1973, now over 70% of all oil is used for transportation, despite advances in fuel efficiency, making the U.S. even more dependent on oil for transportation,” said Jeff Serfass, Managing Director of the CHBC.
As a viable alternative, hydrogen fuel cell technology is quiet, creates zero emissions, and the hydrogen can be produced domestically from many renewably resources or natural gas.
“While challenges remain to the broad introduction of hydrogen and fuel cells to the marketplace, the recent advances in technology and promising announcements from companies on record sales and near-term rollout of new products are exciting news,” said Mark Abramowitz, CHBC President. “The Summit presentations by industry leaders and government representatives will showcase these advances and their visions,” Abramowitz added.
For attendees interested in experiencing this technology first hand, the California Fuel Cell Partnership offers a Ride ‘n Drive of several fuel cell electric vehicles on October 9, between 12 PM and 2 PM.
