California Hydrogen Business Council Supports Statements of Governor Brown and California Senate President pro Tempore Kevin de León on Paris Climate Accord
Yorba Linda – The California Hydrogen Business Council (CHBC) voiced strong support for the statements by Governor Brown and California Senate President pro Tempore Kevin de León regarding the withdrawal of the United States from the Paris Climate Accord. The CHBC joins the chorus of the Natural Resources Defense Council, Sierra Club, Union of Concerned Scientists and many other environmental and industry organizations in their concerns about the United States’ actions to address climate change and greenhouse gas emission reduction.
The Paris Climate Accord set voluntary commitments for all signatory countries to achieve meaningful reduction in greenhouse gas emissions. The State of California is on track to meet those voluntary commitments and aims to go far beyond those goals. The CHBC applauds the California Senate passage of SB 100 on May 31, which aims to achieve 100 percent renewable electricity by 2045. The CHBC encourages building on this progress by adding to the renewable electricity mandate a renewable gas mandate to increase the use of greenhouse-gas-free renewable hydrogen and reduce the reliance of fossil-fueled natural gas in California.The CHBC also lauds Governor Brown’s creation of the U.S. Climate Alliance to commit U.S. states to upholding the Paris Climate Agreement and to taking aggressive action on climate change. The hydrogen industry is achieving meaningful progress in the State of California by creating clean energy jobs and reducing green house gases and public health pollutants. Due to California’s strong leadership and long-term vision to create a positive framework for the environment and industry, the decision to leave the Paris Climate Accord will not adversely affect our zero-emission energy industry.
The CHBC and its members look forward to continuing supporting the Governor, the legislature and the California agencies to build and expand the policy and regulatory framework for a clean energy economy suited for the 21st century.
