CHBC Deputy Director and International Codes and Standards expert Jennifer Hamilton and the Center for Hydrogen Safety’s Nick Barilo will discuss safe hydrogen use, with an interactive discussion to follow.
This webinar will discuss the properties and hazards of hydrogen and fundamental considerations for safe use. It will also identify helpful safety resources available for you and your organization. Nick Barilo
Executive Director
Center for Hydrogen Safety
Nick Barilo is Executive Director of the Center for Hydrogen Safety (CHS) at the American Institute of Chemical Engineers and Hydrogen Safety Program manager at the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL). CHS is a global nonprofit resource that supports and promotes hydrogen’s safe handling and use across industrial and consumer applications in the energy transition. As Executive Director of CHS, Nick helps to facilitate access to hydrogen safety experts; develop comprehensive safety guidance, outreach, and education materials, and provide a forum to partner on worldwide technical solutions.
Nick is also a licensed fire protection engineer having over 30 years of experience and has dedicated his career to reducing risks to personnel and property. He has served on the NFPA 2, Hydrogen Technologies Code committee and was instrumental in developing the document’s fundamental chapters. His work at PNNL provides essential hydrogen safety support for the U.S. Department of Energy’s Hydrogen and Fuel Cells Office. In this capacity, he directs the U.S. Hydrogen Safety Panel activities and leads safety knowledge dissemination and first responder training efforts. Nick has authored papers and journal articles and has presented both nationally and internationally on hydrogen safety.
Jennifer Hamilton
Deputy Director
CHBC
Jennifer joined the CHBC in April 2023 as the Deputy Director. Jennifer’s hydrogen journey started in 2006 with the California Fuel Cell Partnership. She comes to the CHBC with a background in participating in and leading the development of national and international safety, codes & standards. She has also led hydrogen education and outreach to the emergency response and permitting official communities, working with the U.S. Department of Energy and the Center for Hydrogen Safety. She continues her hydrogen career with the CHBC and leading their policy initiatives. Jennifer is passionate about hydrogen and enabling this energy transformation.
