Hydrogen Air Quality Impact Assessment for South Coast Air Basin
The California Hydrogen Business Council (CHBC) invites you to join our upcoming free Hydrogen Air Quality Impact Assessment report launch webinar:
- Date: Thursday, May 28
- Time: 1-2 pm PT
- Location: Virtual
About the Webinar:
We are excited to announce that the California Hydrogen Business Council will host a webinar to brief attendees on its benchmark report quantifying the benefits of deploying hydrogen fuel in the South Coast Air Basin.
As California pursues ambitious climate goals, this research fills a crucial knowledge gap for hydrogen fuel and its implementation by clearly defining the public health benefits and value of expanding hydrogen deployment.
Lead researcher Dr. Ling Jin will present her methodology and highlight the major findings of the UC Berkeley study, offering evidence‑based insight for California’s clean energy policy discussions. We hope all will attend this important discussion in California’s clean energy policy debate.
Key Insights and Takeaways:
- Benchmark Research Quantifies Public Health Benefits of Hydrogen Development: The study explicitly quantifies the public health benefits hydrogen deployment could have on California’s South Coast Air Basin, helping close a crucial knowledge gap in California’s clean energy policy debate.
- Hydrogen Offers a Compelling Alternative for Heavy-Duty Transportation: The research explores how hydrogen deployment in the heavy-duty vehicle sector can support California’s climate goals while addressing challenges associated with battery-electric solutions.
- Lead Researcher Will Share Methodology and Key Findings: Attendees will hear directly from the lead researcher as she explains her methodology, breaks down key findings, and discusses the role hydrogen can play in California’s clean energy future.
Featured Speakers:
Ling Jin
Research Affiliate, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, UC-Berkeley
Dr. Ling Jin is a research affiliate in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at UC Berkeley. She holds a PhD in Energy and Resources and an MA in Statistics, both from UC Berkeley. Her research focuses on air quality modeling—photochemical transport and dispersion modeling—and emission and health impact assessment for a range of gas-phase and particulate pollutants. Dr. Jin serves as principal investigator or technical lead on multiple projects that inform environmental policy and decision-making. Her work includes high-resolution ozone and PM2.5 source attribution for disadvantaged communities in central California, the development of tools for integrated transportation-emissions, air quality, and health assessment, and evaluations of air quality and health co-benefits of decarbonization technologies across sectors, including clean hydrogen deployment and decarbonization pathways for medium/heavy-duty and nonroad sources. At the federal level, Dr. Jin serves on the Science Advisory Board of BenMAP and the Benefits Methods Panel for U.S. EPA, guiding the air quality related health and social cost assessment.
