GTA, Inc.

GTA technology introduces a paradigm shift in the current form and function of offshore wind energy. Electricity from a nameplate 10 MW wind turbine, for example, is rectified and used to power a resilient subsea GTA 10 MW electrolysis system that is anchored at the seafloor beneath the turbine. Subsea resiliency is provided at several levels. EMP devices generate electromagnetic waves in the frequency range 100 MHz – 100 GHz. For seawater this corresponds to penetration depths of 2.7 cm – 0.85 mm. The electrolyzer housing is polyethylene, a material with virtually perfect stability in seawater. Hydrogen output from each autonomous wind turbine/electrolysis system is connected to a subsea hydrogen pipeline network for subsea storage and subsequent use as a fuel or converted to utility grid electricity via hydrogen fuel cells and DC – AC inverters. GTA technology is different from the current business model of offshore wind energy in that large power transformers and high voltage cables are not present and energy storage and grid balancing are included.

Our design incorporates advanced power electronics with precise software control of the temperature and pressure of the reaction, thus extracting power efficiently from a wide variety of fuels — including green hydrogen and green ammonia as they become more plentiful — while maintaining low emissions. The linear generator automatically adapts to the composition of an incoming fuel and responds accordingly with precise control of the reaction to maximize efficiency and minimize emissions. Modular and scalable, Mainspring’s linear generators can be deployed where the demand exists, either at a local level or at utility scale. Full dispatchability also allows linear generators to consistently match power output with demand, while integrating with and firming variable renewables such as solar and wind, thereby supporting the continued rapid adoption of renewable energy while bolstering resilience and avoiding unnecessary curtailment.
